Uit eer­der onder­zoek aan de [Kei­zer­straat 2A](https://www.archeologiegorinchem.com/wp-content/uploads/wp-mfa-exports/page/keizerstraat-2a-middeleeuwse-stadsmuur-2004.md) en [Kei­zer­straat 6](https://www.archeologiegorinchem.com/wp-content/uploads/wp-mfa-exports/page/keizerstraat-6-middeleeuwse-stadsmuur-1997.md) was bekend dat er res­ten van de mid­del­eeuwse stads­muur in dit gebied aan­we­zig waren.** Tij­dens het proef­sleu­ven­on­der­zoek zijn in totaal 8 spo­ren aan­ge­trof­fen. Deze beho­ren tot één struc­tuur met moge­lijk twee bouw­fa­ses. Het betreft een (voor­raad-) kel­der­tje dat op grond van het for­maat van de gebruikte bak­ste­nen en pla­vui­zen vanaf het mid­den van de 17de eeuw kan wor­den geda­teerd. Kort daarna werd het kel­der­tje tot beer­kel­der omge­vormd. Voor beide bouw­fa­ses werd gebruik gemaakt van oud bouw­ma­te­ri­aal, moge­lijk afkom­stig van de in onbruik geraakte en afge­bro­ken stads­muur. De spo­ren 1 – 3 zijn van later datum en han­gen waar­schijn­lijk samen met de sloop van de struc­tuur in de 19de of 20ste eeuw. Tij­dens het arche­o­lo­gisch onder­zoek zijn diverse vond­sten gedaan bij zowel de aan­leg van het vlak als in de sporen. ## Vond­sten De vond­sten zijn onder te ver­de­len in de mate­ri­aal­ca­te­go­rieën kera­miek (kera­misch bouw­ma­te­ri­aal en gebruiks­aar­de­werk), klei­pij­pen, metaal, glas, natuur­steen en (dier­lijk) bot. Het aan­ge­trof­fen kera­misch bouw­ma­te­ri­aal dateert voor­na­me­lijk uit de 16de /​17de tot 18de eeuw. In totaal zijn 350 aar­de­werk­frag­men­ten ver­za­meld, date­rend uit de 16de tot 19de eeuw, en meer dan 150 afkom­stig van klei­pij­pen die te date­ren zijn in de 17de-18de eeuw. Er wer­den ook 27 frag­men­ten glas aan­ge­trof­fen die niet nauw­keu­rig geda­teerd kun­nen wor­den. Bij de aan­leg van de proef­sleuf wer­den 40 frag­men­ten metaal aan­ge­trof­fen bestaande uit gereed­schap­pen en ove­rige (huis­hou­de­lijke gebruiks)voorwerpen, als­mede con­struc­tie­ma­te­ri­aal. Tij­dens het arche­o­lo­gi­sche onder­zoek werd uit­slui­tend dier­lijk bot aan­ge­trof­fen dat in de [tafo­no­mi­sche](https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tafonomie "Wikipedia - tafonomie") groep van het con­sump­tie­af­val geschaard kan worden. ## Con­clu­sie De resul­ta­ten van het arche­o­lo­gisch onder­zoek gaven aan­lei­ding tot aan­pas­sin­gen in de voor­ge­no­men bouw­plan­nen op de
