In the sixteenth century, the Kazerneplein was the place where pensionary Adriaen van Werensteyn had a large country house built. The house stood on a large piece of land west of the Schuttersgracht and was surrounded by an orchard and beautiful ornamental gardens. At the beginning of the seventeenth century, Jacob van Paffenrode took over the house and forever linked his family name to the house. The house stood in the middle of the Kazerneplein until around 1756. It was not until the nineteenth century that the site was built on with first one and later a second barracks. In the lecture that P. Floore gave for the association Old Gorcum on Monday 20 April, the results of the excavation will be presented for the first time. The building remains and finds that were found will lift a corner of the veil that lies over the daily life of the Gorcum elite from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The meeting will be on Monday 20 April in nursing home De Schutse, Mollenburgseweg 44. Starts at 20.00:XNUMX.
