Would you like to see the beautiful glass from which a school principal drank his beer 600 years ago? Or are you curious about the medieval weapons that were used during the siege of the castle of the lords of Arkel in Wijdschild? This is possible during the National Archaeology Days from 12 to 14 October. On these three days the archaeology depot is open between 14.00:17.00 and XNUMX:XNUMX. Admission is free.
Program
- Children from 8 to 12 years old can search for finds with a metal detector on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons, or carry out assignments during a treasure hunt through the depot. The very best detectives can earn a real diploma!
- On Saturday afternoon 13 October and Sunday afternoon 14 October, you can have your own finds viewed by depot manager Martin Veen during the finds consultation hour.
- Especially for the readers of 'Ten centuries of Gorinchem, History of a Dutch city' a small exhibition has been set up with the archaeological finds from this book.

From Prehistory to World War II
In the archeology depot you will find all the finds that were found during excavations in Gorinchem. A huge collection. Ranging from prehistoric flint tools, found on the Dalemdonk, to a gigantic sea mine from the Second World War, once fished out of the Merwede.
The depot is not a museum, but has the important task of keeping all finds and documentation of archaeological research available for (future) scientific research. Gorinchem is the only municipality in our country where the archeology depot is run entirely by volunteers.
