The building was tucked away between the buildings on Langendijk and Molenstraat, accessible via the house with the painted sign that gave the church its name.
The clandestine church was possibly founded around 1633, when Pastor Johannes Hortensius van Wevelinchoven took over its management after his work at the clandestine church "De Koevoet." Between 1694 and 1702, the building passed to the Old Catholics, who used it until 1815. After that, it came into the hands of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, which still uses it today.
