GORINCHEM – Archaeologists of Hollandia and volunteers from the Archaeology Working Group yesterday uncovered the remains of a horse mill on the corner of Arkelstraat in the Gorcum city centre. The Rosmolensteeg, which borders the research site, owes its name to it.
Archaeologist Tim Hoogendijk: “We found, among other things, part of a wooden wheel about two metres below street level. At the point where the axle of the turning mechanism was, we found fragments of a millstone.” He suspects that the fragments are from the fifteenth century.
