During excavation work next to the Great Tower human bone remains have been found in Gorinchem. These are bones that come from a cemetery on the Groenmarkt that was closed 200 years ago.
The age of the bones is still being determined. The work in Gorinchem has come to a standstill after the discovery. The municipality is working on a plan in case more human remains are found during the excavation work.
It is the second discovery of human bones this week. In Dordrecht, the remains of two or three people were dug up under a schoolyard. That turned out to be an archaeological find.
