Archaeologists robbed at Kazerneplein

GORINCHEM – The archaeologists on the Barracks Square in Gorinchem have been seriously affected by theft from the research field. There is still no trace of the perpetrators, who made a professional impression. In the night from Wednesday to Thursday, a rubbish bin buried in the Kazerneplein was destroyed and removed.

A number of archaeological finds, including seventeenth-century pottery and glass worth several thousand guilders, were also removed. The excavations are looking for remains of the House of Paffenrode. The Kazerneplein will then be used for the construction of homes and shops and the construction of a parking garage.
